Basic Backpacking Course (CSAV)

The second part of our three step wilderness progression designed for individuals, teaches everything you need to know to begin a multi-night outdoor adventure. Gain the knowledge you’ll need to make important decisions about gear, clothing, and trip planning, then hit the trail to practice and hone your skills.

Practice Hike: May 16 8:30-3:00 Ojai area
Skills day: May 17: 8:30-3:00 Camp Arnaz
Overnight Trip Dates: May 23-24

*6th graders need to have completed Wilderness Hiking Course*

Cost: $60/ individual covers insurance, group gear, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and backpack. Backpackers also need to contribute toward food. Refunds available only when event is cancelled.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Wilderness Hiking Course. Girls can attend without an adult.

We’re calling on our creative Girl Scouts to help design the 2027 Early Bird patch — and we want your ideas! This is your chance to show off your creativity and leave your mark on the next membership year.

Santa Barbara Zoo Snooze (All)

Hey Girl Scouts,

Join fellow Girl Scouts at the Santa Barbara Zoo Snooze for a night of giggles, friendship, and wild adventures! Imagine camping under the stars with your troop, surrounded by the playful sounds of zoo animals. Get ready for a roarin’ good time as you explore the zoo after hours and create memories that will last a lifetime! After your overnight adventure you are free to explore the zoo on your own.

Times: Check-in begins, Saturday at 6:30 pm and the overnight ends at 11:00 am on Sunday.

Who is Invited: D/B/J/C/S/A – GSCCC Troops and GSCCC Girl Scouts with their individual adults.

Location: Santa Barbara

Fee: $100.00 per person for GSCCC Members & $110.00 for all other Council members (All adult attendees must be registered girl scout members with current background checks)

Wilderness Hiking Course (JCSAV)

Date: Sat Mar 14 2026, 9:00 AM PDT – 4:30 PM PDT
Trek Wild is Volunteer led hiking and backpacking in the GSCCC central/south area.

Take the first step in your wilderness adventure! Designed for individuals, our Wilderness Hiking Course safely takes Girl Scouts and adults out of the campground and into the woods. Wilderness Hiking covers outdoor skills and knowledge and is recommended -though not a prerequisite* – for the Basic Backpacking and Advanced Backpacking courses. Spend your morning in the classroom and your afternoon on the trail learning about safety, proper gear and equipment, the Leave No Trace ethic, and building independence in Girl Scouts. This class lays a strong foundation for more extraordinary adventures. Have an entire troop interested? Contact us to arrange a course!

Classroom portion 9am-2pm
Hike portion 2pm-4:40pm at Wildwood Park

*New this year: 5th grade Juniors and older may attend; Wilderness hiking is recommended but not required for Basic Backpacking, which will be offered later in the spring

Covers course materials and “10 Essentials” starter kit.
This is a drop-off event.  Individual girls can attend without an adult.

Kneeling BBs (JCSA)

Date: Sat Jun 20 2026, 5:00 PM PDT – 6:00 PM PDT

Challenge yourself in mastering BB gun (air rifle) target shooting. There are a variety of different positions to choose from! Girl scouts will be instructed in gun safety, range etiquette, and accuracy training.

Levels must be completed in order and will increase in difficulty.

Level 1: Benchrest BB’s

Level 2: Standing BB’s

Level 3: Kneeling BB’s

Level 4: Prone BB’s

Huntress Archery (B*JCSA)

Date: Sat Jun 20 2026, 3:00 PM PDT – 4:00 PM PDT

Girl Scouts in 3rd grade and up will be instructed in archery techniques, range safety, and target shooting. Each course increases difficulty by moving farther away from the target.

Levels must be completed in order.

Level 1: Maiden Archery

Level 2: Scout Archery

Level 3: Huntress Archery

Cowgirl Roping (DB)

Date: Sun Jun 14 2026, 11:00 AM PDT – 12:00 PM PDT

Saddle up, cowgirls! This exciting program introduces Daisies and Brownies to the world of roping. With guidance from our Equine Staff, girls will learn the basics from the ground up, meet our horses, and practice their roping skills in a fun and supportive setting. It’s a hands-on experience full of laughter, learning, and lassoing—perfect for young adventurers. Grab your boots and join the fun!

NOTE – This program is introductory, and no horseback riding will be involved. Proper attire is still required.
