If you don’t see the patch, or any patch that looks a lot like it, in the patch placement guide for your daughter’s level, the patch is probably a Fun Patch. These are usually participation patches that girls get for simply going to a Girl Scout event though sometimes they are also earned.
While the front of the vest is reserved for official Girl Scout badges and pins, the fun patches on the back of the vest become a scrapbook of memories for all of the fun things that your daughter has done as a Girl Scout.
How do girls get fun patches?
- Many Girl Scout events include a fun patch for the girls who attend.
- Girls can earn fun patches by participating in the Fall or Cookie sale.
- Troops may vote to use some of their funds to purchase fun patches as a remembrance of fun things the troop does.
- Girls can also earn fun patches on their own by completing educational programs through Girl Scouts, the National Park Service’s Junior Ranger program, and other organizations.
What about cute patches you find or family activities?
If your daughter sees a cute patch or the family goes somewhere and your daughter wants a patch as a keepsake, that’s fine! Those patches can go on a jacket, a bag, or even a blanket.
